About RoadFlag
A free, live map of what's happening on the roads – fallen trees, flooding, power lines down, snow and ice – reported by the people driving them, alongside every official source we can bring together in one place. Started in West Wales; built for the whole of Wales and beyond.
- Free for personal use. Always. No account, no app store, no adverts.
- Anonymous. You don't sign up to post or to read. Photos have their location data removed.
- Live. New reports appear on everyone's screen the moment they're posted, and drop off when people say the road is clear.
What we're doing
When a storm comes through, the useful information is scattered across dozens of Facebook groups, council pages, bus company websites and official feeds – and it's out of date by the time you find it. RoadFlag puts it on one map:
Anyone can drop a pin with a photo in seconds. Others confirm it's still there or mark it clear, so stale reports fade out.
Closures, incidents and roadworks, weather warnings, flood warnings, high rivers and power cuts – shown as diamonds so you can tell them apart.
Bus routes turn red when the operator has posted a disruption, with a link straight to their notice.
Live forecourt prices, from the government's Fuel Finder service.
Where our information comes from
Everything except people's own reports comes from public, open sources. We read them automatically, every few minutes, and link back to the original wherever we can. None of these organisations runs or endorses RoadFlag.
| What | From | How often |
|---|---|---|
| Road closures, incidents, roadworks | Traffic Wales (motorways and trunk roads) | Every 2 minutes |
| Weather warnings | Met Office | Every 5 minutes |
| Flood warnings and alerts | Natural Resources Wales | Every 5 minutes |
| River levels | Natural Resources Wales gauges – we only show ones that are high or rising fast | Every 5 minutes |
| Power cuts | National Grid (south Wales), SP Energy Networks (mid and north Wales) | Every 5 minutes |
| Fords | OpenStreetMap – flagged when a nearby river is high | Monthly |
| Fuel prices | UK Government Fuel Finder | Every 30 minutes |
| Bus routes | Traveline National Dataset | A few times a year |
Bus companies
No single feed of bus disruptions exists for Wales, so we read each company's own service-updates page.
| Company | Covered |
|---|---|
| TrawsCymru (Transport for Wales) | Yes |
| Arriva (north Wales) | Yes |
| First Cymru (Swansea, south and west Wales) | Yes |
| Cardiff Bus | Yes |
| Newport Bus | Yes |
| Lloyds Coaches | Yes |
| Pembrokeshire County Council bus disruptions | Yes |
| Stagecoach South Wales | Not yet – their updates aren't published in a form we can read |
| Adventure Travel, Edwards Coaches, Taf Valley and most smaller operators | Not yet – they post on Facebook and X only |
A route without a red line may still be disrupted.
Full credits and licences are in our terms.
